Extended Day Program
Syracuse Say Yes to Education Extended Day programs provide K-5 students the opportunity to benefit from 2 extra hours of academic instruction, tutoring, and enrichment programming 4 days/week (Monday-Thursday). Extended Day teachers and staff create a project-based enrichment curriculum that combines traditional academic subjects (Math, English, Science, Social Studies) with hands-on learning and exploration. Enrichment subjects may include art, theater, dance, sports, creative writing, cooking, computers, and foreign language.
In the 2012-2013 academic year, all SCSD elementary schools will offer Say Yes to Education Extended Day programs in partnership with various community-based organizations and the Syracuse City School District. The program is free and transportation is provided. Please contact the Say Yes School Specialist at your child’s school for more information. Applications will be available at all SCSD elementary schools this fall.
Extended Year Program
The Say Yes Extended Year program provides academic and enrichment opportunities, youth engagement activities, and leadership opportunities aimed to develop talents, introduce new skills, and unleash creativity in all participating children. Through hands-on, one-on-one, and small-group teaching and learning activities, Say Yes Extended Year programs support the physical, social, and cognitive growth of your children in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. Say Yes Scholars and other local college students teach the afternoon enrichment portion of the Extended Year program, preceded by assisting SCSD teachers with the morning academic classes.
