Say Yes ScholarsWho are Say Yes Scholars?

Say Yes Scholars are Say Yes Syracuse Scholarship Guarantee eligible Syracuse City School District high school graduates who attend Say Yes Higher Education Compact partner colleges.

Throughout the year, Say Yes Syracuse hosts special networking and career development opportunities designed especially for our Say Yes Scholars.  These events are made possible via collaboration from Say Yes Higher Education Compact partner colleges and local corporate and community partners.  The events help unite and connect our Say Yes Scholars and local supporters in meaningful relationships that may lead to increased college persistence and increased access to internships and/or employment.  If you, or your company/organization, would like to help support our Scholars in this way, please contact Kristi Eck, Education Program Director, at keck@syr.edu.

The Say Yes Scholar Portal launched November 5, 2012!  This online portal enables the Scholars to better connect with Say Yes Syracuse and, in return, allow Say Yes Syracuse to better serve and communicate with our Scholars.  The Portal serves as a future alumni portal/database so Say Yes Scholars and Say Yes can easily continue to remain in contact with Say Yes Syracuse after earning their college degree.  We look forward to seeing our Say Yes Scholars serve as future mentors, leaders, and internship/employment providers to our younger Say Yes Scholars, creating a legacy of reciprocal support and advancement within the Say Yes Scholar family. Our first four-year college Say Yes Scholar cohort will graduate in Spring 2013; we can’t wait to honor and celebrate them!

If you are a Say Yes Scholar and you have not signed up for the Say Yes Scholar Portal, please take 5 minutes to Create a New Account and sign up today! Your Portal application will then be reviewed and approved and you will be emailed to confirm that your account has been approved and ready for full use!

A Pre-College Program for our Say Yes Scholars: Summer Success Academy

Say Yes to Education and Onondaga Community College (OCC) partnered together for the second year to offer a 5-week Summer Success Academy (SSA) program at OCC. The SSA program, piloted in 2011, was created to prepare students for the challenges of college life. This year's program began July 6th and ended on August 10, 2012. SSA students took OCC courses, received academic support from tutors and mentors, and got a jump-start on college life and academic studies. SSA students enrolled in a total of 3 college courses including at least 1 developmental course and a 1 credit introduction to college course. The college life course oriented students to OCC services, college life, and introduced them to study skills they could learn to be academically successful at OCC and beyond. Through this program, SSA students had an opportunity to make new friends who share their motivation, desire to succeed, and intent to have an amazing and one-of-a-kind summer experience. SSA 2012 was fully funded by Say Yes to Education and OCC.
