Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life is a consortium of colleges and universities that supports public scholarship and practice in the arts, humanities, and design. Such projects tend to integrate pedagogy, scholarship, and public work. Examples abound: first person story gathering, for example, carried out by faculty and students with local residents, may be contextualized in college courses and developed into local history texts, public murals, museum exhibitions, or other forms of knowledge.
